RIJAG Representative Director Takeo Harada Appears in UN Secretary-General Candidates Hearing
— A First Concrete Step in the “Pax Japonica Project” —
On April 21, 2026 (EDT), Takeo Harada, Representative Director of the Research Institute for Japan’s Globalization (RIJAG), appeared via recorded video intervention during the United Nations General Assembly Hearing with candidates for the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.
The hearing was convened as part of the UN’s public dialogue process, providing candidates with an opportunity to present their views on peace and security, sustainable development, institutional reform, and the future of global governance before Member States and global civil society.
During the session, Mr. Harada addressed a question to
Rafael Mariano Grossi,
Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and candidate for the next UN Secretary-General, focusing on the transformation of international order in the age of AI, geopolitics, and strategic uncertainty.
RIJAG, which holds Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), continues to promote international policy dialogue and intellectual engagement across borders.
This participation represents one of the first concrete steps in the “Pax Japonica Project” — RIJAG’s long-term initiative aimed at contributing Japanese intellectual perspectives, dialogue, and cooperative frameworks to the international community.
RIJAG will continue contributing to constructive international dialogue and the shaping of a peaceful and sustainable global order through active engagement with global institutions and policy communities.
