Activities for 10th World Water Forum

2023.09.02

We have attended the meeting with the Japan team which will participate to 10th World Water Forum. We had the discussion over the importance of disseminating Japanese position to the global society regarding Kumamoto Declaration last year. This blog will introduce Japanese activities for it.

When thinking of water, the image of the West, such as France comes up, but there are schemes in Japan as well as Asian countries of the deepening activities for “water” too. That is, the Asia-Pacific Water Summit is a high-level summit subjecting 49 countries of the Asia-Pacific region to deepen their knowledge about water-related social issues with aiming to enhance resource mobilisation and activities.

The 1st forum (2007) was held in Oita and the 4th one was held in Kumamoto in 2022, where “Kumamoto Initiative for Water” was declared as the Japanese proactive contribution plan to water-related social issues. To promote this declaration to the global society, Prime Minister’s Special Envoy Kamikawa presented it at the UN headquarters in New York this year (2023).

At the 10th World Water Forum, associated organisations including sisterhood organisation IISIA relate to the decision-making to embody Japan’s standpoint as policies. The sisterhood organisation IISIA takes sections in “knowledge and innovation” which we contribute by sharing the knowledge of the utility of water for Smart Water Management. We look forward to indicating to you the paths of role models in which Pax Japonica is getting closer to the global society.
